COMMUNITY GROUPS
Housing and employment rights to be celebrated
by Bill Henderson
and Rich Oldrieve Cleveland-Stonewall Cleveland is excited to invite you to a Memorial Day weekend barbecue and rally for housing and employment rights, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, May 25 at Pilgrim Church on West 14th at Starkweather.
Stonewall Cleveland will be honoring North Olmsted Mayor Ed Boyle, Cleveland Mayor Michael White, and Cleveland city councilmen
L

to educate the community about political issues, we plan this cookout to publicize who our friends are in North Olmsted and in Cleveland's November municipal elections. We hope to encourage similar support in other cities in Northeast Ohio. Even if you don't live in either city, you will still have a good time and find out how to help us gain more supportive politicians where you live! In addition to local social and entertainment groups will help us rally the energy needed to work in these cities.
STONEWALL
CLEVELAND
Patmon and Tim Melena for helping to enact lesbian-gay antidiscrimination legislation. With legislation soon to be pending in Lakewood, Westlake, and other cities, we will celebrate cities that provide you the security to live free from discrimination.
This Memorial weekend barbecue rally is a change of pace from Stonewall Cleveland's annual fundraising dinner and is guaranteed to be fun, rain or shine. A lesbian/gay political organization of Northeastern Ohio Pilgrim Church's parking lot should come alive with party music and private caterers selling a variety of food ranging from hot dogs to barbecue ribs to vegetarian. In case of cold or rain, Pilgrim's fellowship hall will offer refuge.
Many times our community is so inundated with bad news from our enemies that we forget to celebrate our successes and honor our friends. Last summer, Mayor Edward Boyle shepherded through the North Olmsted city council a fair housing ordinance that gives gays, lesbians and bisexuals equal rights to purchase homes and rent apart-
ments.
Just this past December and January, Cleveland city councilmen Bill Patmon and Tim Melena created groundbreaking legislation that made Cleveland the first city in the country to make discrimination against lesbians, bisexuals and gays a criminal offense punishable by fines and jail.
As part of Stonewall Cleveland's mission
The bottom line of this cookout or any other political event is to raise money. In addition to garnering a few bucks for Stonewall Cleveland's educational mission, we are hoping to help our politician friends raise some campaign funds. Because Stonewall's tax status prevents us from directly contributing to campaigns, we invite our honorees to set up booths so that the community can show support by contributing to their campaigns. Please remember-if we aren't willing to help our friends, our enemies are more than willing to replace them with someone else more to their liking!

The Cleveland Institute of Music Opera Theater Presents PUCCINI'S Sister Angelica • RAVEL'S The Spanish Hour
Two one-act operas in sharp contrast. One, a dramatic tragedy of a young noblewoman who enters a convent after bearing a child out of wedlock, the other a comic romp complete with illicit meetings, mistaken
identities and a husband who is duped by his wife! Both engaging stories, directed by Gary Race, offer beautiful musical scores performed by the CIM Orchestra under the direction of Carl Topilow.
